Post Treatment Care

After your procedure, Dr. Langer and his staff will give you verbal and written post-op instructions to follow for management of discomfort and maintenance of your tooth.

Root Canal Therapy is a relatively painless procedure. However, you may experience inflammation or sensitivity in the treated area or the jaw for a few days. These temporary symptoms usually respond well to over-the-counter medication. Dr. Langer may suggest stronger medications depending on the requirement. It is important to carefully follow the instructions given for medications. Some medications may make you drowsy, so you must always be cautious. Please arrange for a ride if under the influence of medications that impair your ability to drive.

Avoid chewing or biting down on your treated tooth until it is completely restored by your dentist, to avoid any damage. Always remember to brush and floss regularly to ensure the area is clean and also to avoid any infections.

When your root canal and follow-up appointments are all completed, visit your dentist for the final crown to restore your tooth fully. With proper care, your restored tooth can last as long as your natural teeth.

Contact us immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Uneven bite
  • Swelling inside or outside your mouth
  • If the temporary crown or filling that was put in place comes out
